Description
La Tour Melas planted its vineyard on the outskirts of Stilida, 30km from Lamia, in the year 2000. Soil analysis proved the site perfect for cultivating Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines. The terroir, hillside inclination, and the proximity of the Aegean Sea — with its evening breezes cooling the vines — create the ideal microclimate, while ecological and biodynamic principles guide all agricultural and winemaking decisions.
The sheep and geese of the farm fight weeds naturally, manure fertilizes the vineyard, and bees from the beehives pollinate the estate’s flora. In 2006, an ultra-modern gravity-driven winery was built inside a rock. La Tour Melas has also produced wine from 100-year-old ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Agiorgitiko grapes from Nemea, and launched a rosé called “Idylle” made entirely from Agiorgitiko.
