Zagorin

The Agricultural Cooperative in Zagora, located on Mount Pelion, was established in 1916 by 199 citizens. It holds the distinction of being Greece’s first agricultural cooperative and has been operating continuously for over a century. With approximately 800 members, representing 99% of cultivators from the villages Zagora, Pouri, and Makrirahi in the Pelion region, the Cooperative is renowned for its production of high-quality apples. These apples are meticulously tested and certified with the prestigious Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), ensuring their superior quality. Through the implementation of the “Integrated Production” method, the Zagorin apple is cultivated using clean and healthy practices, which further instills trust among consumers both in Greece and worldwide.

During the apple-harvesting season, visitors have the opportunity to witness the selection, packing, and quality testing procedures of the apples and taste the quality of the apples that are harvested.
