The Merkouri Estate is an old rural wine-making company, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018.
Five generations of the Merkouri-Kanellakopoulos family have been cultivating the land with love in an area of exceptional natural beauty by the seafront in Korakohori village, Ilia prefecture, and have been producing excellent wines and olive oil since 1864.
Since then, many things have changed, but one has not: our aspiration to make products of the highest possible quality.
Merkouri Estate today cultivates, in its privately-owned vineyards, the traditional variety Refosko, the Greek varieties Mavrodaphne, Avgoustiati, Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko, and Robola; the Italian varieties of Greek origin Negroamaro and Malvazia Aromatica, and the international varieties Syrah, Mourvedre Grenache, Viognier and Alvarinho, from which a series of premium dry and sweet wines are produced. At the same time, it produces extra virgin olive oil from its Koroneiki olive grove.

The visitor has the opportunity to see the small Agricultural Museum, with its collection of old machinery, tools, and documents from the founding of the Estate to the present. The tour includes a visit to the winery facilities, the underground wine cellars and finally, the vineyards and wonderous nature surrounding the Estate. Under the pine trees backed by the Ionian Sea, the tour ends with a tasting of selected wines and the Estate’s extra virgin olive oil accompanied by appetizers.
For individual visitors, the tasting sessions take place inside the winery in specially designed wine tasting areas.
Finally, visitors can purchase the fine products of the Estate from the winery shop, at preferential prices.

All our products have repeatedly won awards at international and domestic competitions.
The Merkouri Estate was honored to be selected as one of the world’s 100 best wineries for 2016 in the list published annually by the American periodical ‘Wine & Spirits Magazine’.
