Description

The Queen’s Tower Estate, located 10 km north of the centre of Athens, was inspired by Queen Amalia’s (1818 – 1875) vision of establishing a model agricultural facility, where innovative production methods would be applied for the modernization of Greek agronomy. A vineyard was among the estate’s first cultivated crop. Experienced viticulturists from Megara were hired to create the initial 18 hectares of vineyard. The character of this model farm, embodying its original vision, remains apparent today.
The four hectares of vineyard currently under cultivation are organic, as are the pistachio and olive trees also being grown. The location of the vineyard is the same as that of the original vineyard from the era of Queen Amalia. Efforts are underway to apply organized product and waste management methods, such as the composting of waste and utilization of horse waste.
The vines under cultivation produce Greek and European wine grape varieties, both white and red.
