Our company was established in 1969 as a traditional olive oil factory and was turned into a modern olive oil mill in 2005 operating as a family business, while in November 2006 the company began to process and standardize Samos extra virgin olive oil whilst meticulously following all safety and hygiene rules.
Surrounded by olive trees all of our lives, we cultivate them and choose the best ones from the olive groves of the island to produce high-quality olive oil. On the other hand, our experience, size, new operational rules and methods and our know-how give us a big advantage over the larger impersonal factories and enable us to achieve our goal which is to process the best quality of olives and distribute the final product to new markets of Greece and abroad.
TOUR AND TASTING
The tour starts with a video show presenting the importance of olive oil in the culture, history, religion and nutrition of Greece. A visit to the modern oil press then follows, where all the stages of production of the Markou family internationally-acclaimed olive oil are presented as well as a detailed description of all the stages, up to the standardization. Visitors will then enjoy all of what has been described in a four-minute video and finally, be delighted by a tasting session with all of the Markou products, and receive some additional information about the proper storage of olive oil.
Before leaving, visitors will receive a bottle of the awarded extra virgin olive oil ”ELIA” from the Markou family as a gift of hospitality and a memento of their visit.
