The Sardine Festival takes place at Skala the port of the village of Kalloni every year on the first or second weekend of August, lasting three days, and it is well worth a visit.
The special flavor of the sardines of Kalloni wins over more and more fans every year. Whether served fresh at seaside fish tavernas or salt-preserved for enthusiasts, these sardines justify their reputation as unique within Greece.
During the festival, the fishermen bring the fish to the village port and offer it fried and for free to tourists and locals along with ouzo, as live Greek music is performed and the locals along with the tourists are drawn into the dance.
